Analysis of the value content of kyrgyz and english textbooks for the 5th grade

This study aims to conduct a comparative analysis of values represented in the 5th grade Kyrgyz and English Textbooks used in Kyrgyz medium secondary schools in Kyrgyzstan, applying Schwartz`s Theory of Basic Human Values as a theoretical framework. The dataset consists of 262 texts, 159 of them from the Kyrgyz Language textbook and 103 texts from the English Language textbook. In the Kyrgyz textbook, the dominant values were benevolence and universalism, while power and hedonism values were the least represented. Similarly, in the English textbook, benevolence emerged as the most prominent value, whereas power value appeared least frequently. The study concludes with a comparative discussion of value orientations in the two textbooks, offering insights into the sociocultural and educational priorities reflected in Kyrgyzstan`s secondary school curriculum.
