MENTAL HEALTH AND THE DEMAND FOR PSYCHOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE IN THE BORDER REGIONS OF THE FERGANA VALLEY (THE CASE OF SOUTHERN KYRGYZSTAN)

Relevance. This article examines the information needs of the population in the border regions of the Fergana Valley in the field of psychological knowledge. The relevance of this work stems from the high stress levels in the region, the limited availability of professional psychological support, and the lack of empirically grounded psychological education strategies adapted to local socio-cultural contexts. The theoretical basis of the study comprises concepts of stress and coping, social learning theory, cultural-historical psychology, and contemporary approaches to the study of psychological literacy. The empirical section is based on a survey of 302 respondents from the Osh, Batken and Jalal-Abad regions, conducted in Kyrgyz and Russian, followed by quantitative and qualitative data analysis. For the first time, a hierarchy of relevant psychological topics for this region has been identified, with stress management, emotional regulation and the establishment of psychological boundaries occupying a dominant position. Preferred formats for receiving information (short videos, podcasts, interactive courses) and key criteria for trust in sources (scientific validity, the author’s academic affiliation, the presence of practical examples) have been identified. The novelty of the study lies in a comprehensive analysis of the demand for psychological knowledge in the specific conditions of a border region, followed by the development of a model of psychological education that takes into account the linguistic, cultural and format-channel specificities of the target audiences.
