This article shows that logical-semantic criteria are not always reliable for qualification of homogeneity-heterogeneity of definitions. The phenomenon of homogeneity cannot be interpreted only in the logical and semantic terms, outside of relation to the intonational and semantic division of the sentence. Depending on the specific communicative task, intonational means can transform logical-semantic relations “According to the author’s intention, the definitions are logically distant and united by a single emotional content, and this causes a special intonation that divides them, pauses when reading, repetition of stress on each of the definitions, and in writing - commas. For the syntactic homogeneity of definitions, it is important not only the unity of their syntactic function when referred to one common member, but also the similarity of this reference. Their syntactic equality is emphasized by the common intonation structure.
