This article analyzes Chyngyz Aitmatov's story “Spotted Dog Running at the Edge of the Sea”, a less-studied work by the writer who holds a special place in 20th-century world literature. The article examines the historical, cultural, and biographical contexts surrounding the story's creation, as well as its ideological and artistic features. Particular attention is paid to the image of the Nivkh people, first introduced to Kyrgyz readers through Aitmatov's artistic interpretation. The article explores key features of the traditional culture, folklore, worldview, and living conditions of the Nivkh people, their relationship with the natural element of the sea, and the role of mythological motifs in shaping the story's imagery. The article also examines the connection between ethnographic material and Aitmatov's philosophy, including his reflections on the fate of small peoples, the preservation of cultural memory, and universal human values. A conclusion is made about the significance of the story as an important link in the development of the international theme of the writer's work and the expansion of the artistic space of Kyrgyz literature.
