“THE KNIGHT IN THE PANTHER'S SKIN” TRANSLATED BY ALYKUL OSMONOV

Abstract

In this issue of our journal we present to our readers an article by the Kyrgyz national poet, writer, literary critic, public figure Salizhan Gigitov (1936-2006), which has not been published anywhere before. This article reflects literary criticism of Alykul Osmonov, one of the brightest poets of Kyrgyz literature. In particular, information is given on the work of translating Shota Rustaveli's poem “The Knight in the Panther's Skin” into Kyrgyz, the methods used by the Kyrgyz poet, and the dissemination of the poem among the people. At the same time, the author expressed an unbiased critical opinion about the quality of the translation of the Georgian poem into Kyrgyz. The article fully retains the author's style and is presented without any changes.
