The article examines the impact of colonialism on the postcolonial development of African states. It analyzes the historical background of European expansion, the stages of decolonization, and their consequences for the formation of political, economic, and social institutions in African countries. Special attention is paid to structural crises, artificial state borders, the lack of national elites, and institutional weaknesses inherited from the colonial period. The study concludes that many contemporary challenges in African development are largely rooted in the colonial legacy and the continent’s integration into the global system.
