HOUSEHOLD SOLID WASTE OF OSH CITY AND PROBLEMS OF THEIR DISPOSAL

Abstract

The article summarizes information about the composition and volume of solid household waste in Osh. It is noted that the lack of a waste management strategy and the necessary by-laws, uncoordinated actions of government agencies, and the tariff policy of sanitation services do not contribute to the formation of a sustainable waste management system. A sanitary and environmental assessment of the current state of the landfill is given and rational ways of their disposal are recommended. The Osh city landfill, operating since 1975, has exhausted all its resources: while construction was planned for a period of 15 years, it has been in operation for about 50 years. When designing the landfill, the geotechnical and hydrogeological conditions of the area were not taken into account. It was built in violation of sanitary and technical safety standards, although the project included work on laying an insulating layer to prevent the filtration of toxic substances into groundwater and the soil layer.
