REGIONAL BRANCHES OF ORIENTAL STUDIES: THE STRUCTURE AND SPECIFICS OF THE SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF THE EAST

This article examines the main regional branches of Oriental studies that have developed as a result of the historical evolution of Eastern research. It briefly characterizes Arab studies, Iranian studies, Turkology, Sinology, Indology, Mongol studies, Japanese studies, Korean studies, as well as auxiliary disciplines such as Assyriology, Egyptology, and Semitology. The article outlines the subject matter, methodological features, and the contribution of these fields to the understanding of the cultural and historical diversity of the East. It identifies current trends such as the integration of interdisciplinary approaches, the digitization of sources, and the reassessment of the “colonial” legacy. The role of these disciplines in intercultural dialogue, international relations, and academic development is emphasized.
